The Astrological New Year Is Here, Giving Us a Welcome Clean Slate To Begin Again

The week ahead brings rocking potential. On Saturday the 20th, the sun moves into Aries at 5:27 am, ET, heralding both the equinox and the beginning of the astrological new year. After all that we've experienced collectively and in our own lives since March of 2020, it's with welcome arms that we can embrace new energy and a fresh start.

Speaking of a fresh start, on Monday, Mercury, the planet of communication, exits Aquarius, (Mercury entered into Aquarius on January 8th) and moves into the fish's sign, Pisces. Mercury in Pisces helps us build on last week's momentum, amplifying the intuitive breakthroughs we received, as well as deepening our sense of imagination and empathy.

As a reminder, the recent new moon in Pisces, which happened on the 13th, invited us to dream a new dream. If you haven't set your new moon intentions yet, you can still do so. Take time to solidify what you wish to call in. If you already set your intentions, spend time revisiting them. Read them out loud, burn a candle in their honor, and continue to anchor into your desires while visualizing your intended outcome.

The moon will wax crescent throughout the week, moving from Aries into Taurus and arriving in Gemini on Thursday, creating an ideal environment to devote yourself to your heart's longings and imagination faithfully.

The energy on Monday, however, has an edge, so stay mindful. From a health perspective, since we recently changed the clocks to accommodate springing forward, our circadian rhythms need to adjust. (Yes, changing your wake and sleep time even by one hour has an impact.) While it's certainly tempting to boost your energy with caffeine and sugar to feel awake and alive, do your best to lean into movement, too. The energy gain from exercise is much more stable, and staying calm and balanced helps everything.

The potential energy gain is important to note, given that Mercury in Pisces could have us feeling a wee-bit sleepy, and Venus semi-squares Uranus while the sun semi-squares Saturn too. Combine all of this with a raucous Aries moon, and things may feel a bit frantic on Monday morning. However, there are massive opportunities for creativity on this day, too — especially if you can embrace surprises with an open mind and stay steadfast with your focus.

Thankfully, the astrological energy in the middle of the week reinforces stability; the sun sextiles Pluto on Tuesday, strengthening resolve and the experience of personal power. On Wednesday, Mars sextiles Chiron, helping us to integrate healing and embody a deeper level of compassion for ourselves and others. On Thursday, Venus follows up with a sweet sextile to Pluto, too, amplifying the essence of softening into love without aborting boundaries.

This sets us up nicely for Saturday's change in season and the restart of the astrological calendar. Aries is a cardinal fire sign, ruled by Mars, and Aries season invites us to reinvigorate the practices that support us to “begin again.” Exercise and making sensitive and gentle shifts to our nutrition plans can help us now massively. A blood sugar balanced diet and ample hydration can keep the body aligned with its natural needs, and spending time outside in the sunlight helps, too.

With the days growing longer, work to return to the inner knowing that everything is cyclical. Rebirth always follows death and destruction, and now is the time to start to embrace your own.
